Propertuity - Leading Inspired Development

This iconic landmark, now home to The Museum of African Design (MOAD), was acquired by Propertuity in 2010 with the vision to convert the massive space into Africa’s first design Museum. MOAD officially opened to the public on 24 October 2013 with the Southern Guild annual designer showcase. Prior to opening, the venue played host to a number of prestigious events, including Michel Gondry’ Home Movie Factory, Little Dragon concert and STR CRD 2012.

Aaron Kohn, Museum Director, has connected with artists across the continent and holds a degree in African Studies from Columbia University. In 2012 he founded African Lookbook, a distributor in the United States created exclusively for young African designers. He relocated to Johannesburg to focus on creating the MOAD launch programme, driven by his passion to connect existing cultural institutions in Johannesburg with global institutes in order to form fresh, innovative, collaborations.
