Following the success of Maboneng, Propertuity has begun to research and identify opportunities and strategic partnerships in African and global markets in order to develop rich and substantial neighbourhoods around the world.
A special interest in Africa
Propertuity is particularly interested in neighbourhood development opportunities in African Cities. Africa’s commercial and cultural vibrancy in a context of exponential urban population growth (the highest in the world) are key drivers for the creation of unique and dynamic neighbourhoods. Propertuity believes in the ability of architecture, planning and design to solve urban challenges faced by African Cities, such as housing, mobility, and socio-economical inclusion.
International development opportunities and methodology
Propertuity’s approach is to find suitable local operating partners that share a similar vision to uplift previously degenerated parts of their cities and who have the passion and commitment to execute urban change.
Local equity and debt funding partners play a pivotal role in facilitating the financial rollout of the projects.
Successful neighbourhoods
In addition to Propertuity’s core business of developing residential, office and retail space, certain unique concepts developed in the Maboneng Precinct could easily be exported to include satellite spaces in other neighbourhoods, for example:
• MOAD – Museum of African Design
• Curiocity – Backpackers
• 12 Decades Art Hotel
• Main Street Bizarre – Retail centre inside shipping containers
Neighbourhoods developed by Propertuity also offer the perfect platform for international creative collaboration. International artists, architects and organisations constantly engage with Propertuity around transformative creative projects in Maboneng and other neighbourhoods.
Some of the Propertuity’s collaborations include:
• Daffonchio Architects
• Adjaye and Associates
• Huff+Gooden
• Sam Chermeyeff
• Kerim Seiler
GRIND – An international network supporting neighbourhood development
GRIND (Global Regeneration Initiative for Neighbourhood Development) is an international initiative founded in 2013 by Propertuity. GRIND is an international network of regenerated neighbourhoods and buildings restored by private developers. GRIND encourages property investment in partnering neighbourhoods, facilitates access to funding and technical knowledge, and strengthens the international visibility of its members. GRIND local hubs for urban innovation are strategically located in each partnering neighbourhood. A conference gathers all the GRIND members on an annual basis.
